On behalf of the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Alabama, I would like to extend a personal welcome to you as you look through our website to learn a little more about our exceptional program.

Here at USA Family Medicine, our mission is to provide our residents with the highest level of training. We cultivate the knowledge and skills needed to be successful primary care providers. We are committed to training outstanding physicians through a variety of educational programs and the many training sites offered at our institution. In addition, our residents have the opportunity to provide the best possible care to our patients. We serve a diverse patient population, ranging in ages from newborn to over 100 years of age, representing all races and socioeconomic groups. We strive to elevate the quality of care within our community, serving everyone we meet with compassion and understanding.

The University of South Alabama Hospital System, as well as numerous private community practices, allows our residents excellent opportunities to learn in many different settings, including the South Alabama Medical Center (the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center), Children and Women’s Hospital, and the Mitchell Cancer Institute. Our Family Medicine Clinic is located on beautiful Spring Hill Avenue. In addition, we provide our residents with the opportunity to rotate through private practices, such as Baldwin Bone and Joint Orthopedic clinic, clinics for specialized populations, such as Sickle Cell Disease and Infectious Disease clinics, and a variety of other ambulatory clinics located throughout our community.

For over 35 years, our dedicated faculty, community faculty, and support staff have guided our residents in their journey to becoming successful practitioners who have made and will make a difference wherever they choose to practice. As a small program in a small medical community, we enjoy exceptional camaraderie among faculty, staff, and residents of all specialties. We provide an enjoyable work environment conducive to increasing one’s fund of knowledge, learning to be part of an effective team, and forming the leaders of our future.

In addition to receiving high quality education, our residents enjoy extraordinary quality of life. Founded in 1702, Mobile, Alabama offers a unique Southern experience you won’t find anywhere else. Located just one hour away from the beautiful white sand beaches of the Gulf Coast, Mobile is situated at the head of Mobile Bay, home of some of the best sailing in the area. Our delta offers the perfect playground for kayaking, fishing, boating, and a variety of other outdoor activities. We enjoy a warm climate almost year-round. In addition, we have the country’s oldest Mardi Gras celebration, beautiful waterways, fresh seafood and so much more.

I hope that you enjoy browsing our website and learning more about what the University of South Alabama Family Medicine Residency program has to offer you. We look forward to meeting you soon.
