RECENT ALUMNI

George Ngando, MD

George has gone to work at a local hospital. Our loss is their gain! His cheerful attitude and commitment to service is missed in our clinic.

Charlene Grigsby, MD - Chief Resident

Charlene came from a medical family. Her father is a general surgeon in Kingsport, Tennessee and Charlene spent quite a bit of time assisting in his practice. She attended Emory and Henry College for her undergraduate education and then, following some graduate study at East Tennessee State, went to Ross University for her medical education. She has a true sense of calling and is involved in several organizations dedicated to improving the world. She has moved back to the Tri-State area, practicing in Newport News, Virginia.

Warren Tyon , MD

Warren came from Tahlequah, Oklahoma and is a member of the Cherokee Nation. His grandmother spoke only Cherokee and raised his mother without electricity or indoor plumbing. Warren worked his way through college at the University of Central Oklahoma and medical school at U of O. Now he is working towards his goal of being a Family Physician. Warren does have a local connection, with his wife and her family living in Mobile. He enjoys spending time with his rambunctious son, Hunter. He currently serves the Mobile community as an ER physician at a local hospital.

Alphonsus Zohlandt, MD

Fon hails from the Netherlands. He attended Katholieke Universiteit, Nijmegen for both undergraduate and medical. Fon was a general practitioner in the Netherlands when he made the decision to seek further training. He has traveled extensively and has worked as a physician in several countries. His primary job for the past six years was that of a physician in a large refugee camp. He has seen first hand the effects of torture and war on vulnerable people. His travels haven't all be bleak, however, because along the way he gained a lovely wife and several beautiful little girls.

Christopher Hall, MD

Chris and his family remain in the Mobile area working at a local primary care clinic.

Anitra Batie, MD

Anitra has returned to her hometown of Jasper, Alabama to practice in the rural community where she was raised.

Barbara Corcoran, MD

Barbara practices on the Eastern Shore of Mobile Bay, where she lives with her husband and dog. She maintains strong connections with our Family Medicine Program by precepting 3rd Year Medical Students in their Clerkship requirement and she serves the community of seasonal workers at the Baldwin County Clinica del Migrante.

Oleg Formitchev, MD

Oleg has relocated to Atlanta where he practices in a metro area emergency department. He's working his way north to NYC, so he can be closer to family.

Laura Sanspree, MD

Joseph Sejud, MD

Joseph found a need for an emergency physician in Monroeville, Alabama. And although this isn't his final destination, he feels this experience will be beneficial to him in the future.

Amy Haupert , MD

Amy Haupert came to us from the Great White North of Minnesota. She cheerfully withstood our long, hot summers, but could not resist the call of the North. She is back in her home territory, spreading sunshine and treating patients in private practice.

Linda Lash, MD

Linda Jean Lash is a Pittsburg native. As a non-traditional resident, it would be hard to characterize her pre-residency life. Suffice it to say she went to college, worked, had a family and at an age she should have known better, decided to go to medical school at the urging of her friend (and our former chairman) Frank deGruy. She attended the University of South Alabama College of Medicine where she was awarded an accelerated residency in our department. Her third year she served as co-chief resident. Since graduating she has gone to practice in Grand Bay, Alabama (Watermelon capital of the World).

Drake Williams

Mike Merrill, MD

Mike Merrill has opened up his own practice with another graduate, not far across the border into Mississippi. He and Angela Jones serve the close-knit rural community they call home, among neighbors, friend and family.

Angela Jones, MD

Angela Jones has opened a private practice with her co-graduate, Mike Merrill. But in addition to that, she has agreed to stay on as adjunct part-time faculty here in our clinic as we work through some growing pains.

Nicole Lawson, MD

Nicole Lawson knew she would be going back to Arkansas to practice in a rural community, and that is exactly what she did. She gained more than great doctoring experience here in Mobile. She made life long friends, found a great guy and got a beautiful dog. They all live happily in Nicole's hometown where she has gone into private practice serving the same community that served her for so many years.
