Group on Community Medicine

About the Group on Community Medicine

The emphasis of the group has been on the process of instruction of learners in the principles of Community Medicine.

The goals of our group:

  • We will engage all interested faculty working with residents and medical students in conversation regarding the art and science of community based intervention
  • We would like to see all persons involved in patient care to practice community responsive medicine at some level
  • We would like to share the collective wisdom (including both success and failures) of those actively engaged in training and modeling this type of care to all interested parties
  • We would like to allow experienced educators and practitioners to hone their skills, reflect on their experiences, and renew their interests
  • We hope these efforts will lead to cross-pollination, collaboration, and ultimately improved training and practice

The objectives for the STFM Group on Community Medicine April 2004 – April 2005:

  1. To offer face to face discussion and sharing of ideas at the annual meeting
  2. To provide education and input to the larger organization through solicitation of and submission of proposals for the annual meeting
  3. To create a community with a sense of collaboration and mission through discussion and communication
  4. To continue the dialog on the place of community medicine in the larger scope of Family Medicine
  5. To determine which community medicine competencies define the Family Physician through on-going discussion
