The emphasis of the group has been on the process of instruction of learners in the principles of Community Medicine.
The goals of our group:
- We will engage all interested faculty working with residents and medical students in conversation regarding the art and science of community based intervention
- We would like to see all persons involved in patient care to practice community responsive medicine at some level
- We would like to share the collective wisdom (including both success and failures) of those actively engaged in training and modeling this type of care to all interested parties
- We would like to allow experienced educators and practitioners to hone their skills, reflect on their experiences, and renew their interests
- We hope these efforts will lead to cross-pollination, collaboration, and ultimately improved training and practice
The objectives for the STFM Group on Community Medicine April 2004 – April 2005:
- To offer face to face discussion and sharing of ideas at the annual meeting
- To provide education and input to the larger organization through solicitation of and submission of proposals for the annual meeting
- To create a community with a sense of collaboration and mission through discussion and communication
- To continue the dialog on the place of community medicine in the larger scope of Family Medicine
- To determine which community medicine competencies define the Family Physician through on-going discussion
